We're still in the midst of the "War of Kings" x-over in this series. So far I've enjoyed the Guardians role in the War more than Nova's participation. This should be an all-out action issue considering the way things ended last issue. As always, this series is written by Andy Lanning and Dan Abnett.
-This comic opens with a big brouhaha on Knowhere between members of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard and the Inhuman Royal family, with the Guardians caught(literally)in the middle. We get a lot of various characters fighting before the Inhumans manage to get to Crystal, who was kidnapped by the slightly unhinged Guardian Martyr. After securing Crystal, the Inhumans teleport away, leaving the Imperial Guard and the Guardians behind.
-The Imperial Guard attacks the Guardians, since their primary reason for invading Knowhere was to bring Adam Warlock's head back to Emperor Vulcan. The Guardians retreat and scatter while Star-Lord tries to come up with a way to defeat one of the finest armies in the known universe.
-Luckily for Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Major Victory, Groot and Drax return from their mission with the Starjammers and the Guardians are able to toss the invading Imperial Guard out of Knowhere. This issue ends with Knowhere awakening and telling Adam Warlock that the fate of all existence depends on him... Wow, for a space station, Knowhere is kind of bossy...
-Other developments: Mantis linked minds with Crystal, which showed Crystal the potentially dire ramifications the Inhumans war with the Shi'ar could have; While using a large amount of his magic, Warlock transformed into the Magus and slaughtered a mess of Shi'ar soldiers; Starhawk escaped from her imprisonment after she managed to take control of Moondragon's mind. Before leaving Knowhere, Starhawk ran into a group of Guardians and teleported away with them.
This comic was OK, but it wasn't quite as good as it normally is. The War of Kings stuff is definitely taking away from the Guardians themselves. There are a lot of different Guardians storylines occurring here at the same time, and I for one wish we were reading about those stories as opposed to an x-over issue. Next issue should be the conclusion to the War x-over stuff, which is fine by me. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the main War of Kings mini-series big time, but I'd rather the War stuff remained in that book so we can get a couple of the dangling storylines here developed. For a score, I'll give this comic a 7 1/2 out of 10. As far as x-over issues go, this was a good one, but once again, my problem here was that I'm ready for the x-over stuff to end so the Guardians can get on with their own stories.
